A Day at the Races - Sunday, April 15, 2012, 12:30 to 6 pm

Longchamp Racecourse,
Bois de Boulogne, Paris 16

Discover the excitement of thoroughbred racing in France with an insider's tour guided by Gina Rarick (www.gallopfrance.com), currently the only American professional racehorse trainer in France and the first American woman granted a license here. Starting with a BYO picnic lunch in the infield of this historic racecourse, Gina will explain how racing works in France. After lunch there will be a tour of the track, the weighing room where the jockeys prepare for the races, the stabling/saddling enclosures and, if possible, a trip down to the starting gates to watch the horses jump out for a race. Dress for changeable weather! Please reserve your place early. This has proved to be a very popular event in past years and we need to give Longchamp advance notice for picnic tables.

“Pissarro’s Places” - Friday, April 13, 2012 – 6:30 to 8:30 pm

Talk by Ann Saul

Camille Pissarro’s paintings invite you to join him in that place. In Pontoise, the blue sky and reflections lying gently on the Oise River are just as they were then. The “sensations” he felt and captured in his paintings are just as real. This was his genius. Ann Saul has traveled to all the places Pissarro painted (except Venezuela). From her 25 years’ study of Pissarro, she has written a book called Pissarro’s Places. Her slide-lecture covering cities and countryside gives you a taste of the “sensations” of those places and Pissarro’s art. Ann was formerly a Guide at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and a Docent at Terra Museum of American Art in Chicago. Free for PAN members, 5€ for non-members.
